About In 2003 she traveled to Belize to teach a small group of village artisans to produce jewelry with Mayan motifs. This village is located near the archaeological site of Lamanai.

The following is from an article she wrote about her trip for the Colorado Metalsmithing Association.

“I can still say that after enduring ungodly heat and humidity, mosquitoes, scorpions, tarantulas, bullfrogs, howler monkeys, and roosters waking you up at 3 a.m., it was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had.  I must say that the new friendships, the wildlife excursions, fresh mangoes, and daily homemade tortillas linger ever present in my mind.”

Later this fall Sharon will be traveling to Barcelona for the opening of  “The Forum of Cultures”. She was asked by the director of the Artisan Center in Barcelona to curate a show of 10 American women jewelry artists, including her, whose work is figurative.

The center’s website is www.artesania-catalunya.com if you care to take a look.  Select English in upper right corner.

About her jewelry

Sharon tells us that no element of her jewelry is there by chance, and that everything responds to some deeper sense, reasoning or explanation: a carved fish might transport us to her childhood, while a bird may symbolize her current life and women’s faces display her own identity.

Her jewelry reveals that Sharon is a lively, compassionate, and highly sensitive woman.
